Dr Jeff Mann has recently completed six and a half years employment at the Queensland Office of State Revenue as Manager of Learning and Development and then as Manager of Public Rulings.

Professional Experience


Jeff has had extensive professional experience for many years as a Senior Partner in National & International Legal firms such as in Brisbane with Tully & Wilson and Chambers McNab & Co and Tully & Wilson for 30 years, Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons) for 16 years, specialising in State & Territories taxes deal advisory and litigation and then for 6 years as Special Tax Counsel at McCullough Robertson again specialising in State & Territories taxes deal advisory and litigation.

He has extensive experience in tax litigation, both Commonwealth and State. He was engaged by the Queensland Government as a Consultant to assist in the drafting of the Duties Bill 2000 and formulated the tax design for the taxation of Queensland business assets (Chapter 2, part 6), partnerships (Chapter 2, part 7) and trusts (Chapter 2, part 8).

He also authored the Queensland Law Reform Commission Report on Limited Partnerships and advised the Queensland and New South Wales Governments on the drafting of their Limited Partnership legislation.

Academic Experience


Jeff has lectured for 35 years at the T C Beirne School of Law, Griffith Law School, Queensland University of Technology and Macquarie University in State taxes. In February 2006, he was appointed Professor, Professorial Research Fellow and Director, Australian Centre for Commerce, Law and Tax in the T.C. Beirne School of Law at The University of Queensland. In March 2009, he was appointed Professor, Professorial Research Fellow in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. In 2011, he was appointed Professor in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. With Professor John Mangan, Professor of Economics in the School of Economics, he was Co-Director of the Economics & Law Research Unit in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. In 2013, he established with Professor John Mangan and James Stokes the Economics & Law Research Institute Limited and remains a Director.
